What to Look for in a Treatment Program

There are A LOT of options when it comes to SUD (Substance Use Disorder) Treatment programs and facilities. I found this out quickly when I started my search for a place where I could get well. Ultimately, when it comes to this topic, you want the right treatment, at the right time, for the right duration, for you/the person receiving treatment.

That is easier said than done. Here are a few considerations that we feel should simplify the process of finding quality treatment.

Is the Program Licensed?

A state license is proof that the program has oversight, quality control, and that the therapies they provide are considered effective by those that oversee substance use disorder treatment. Sobriety House is licensed by the State of Colorado to provide Intensive and Transitional Residential as well as Intensive and Traditional Outpatient substance use disorder treatment.

Are the Counselors and Staff Licensed or Certified?

Substance use disorder treatment is a specialized branch of behavioural health. It is important that the staff that provides treatment be licensed or certified to provide treatment. Sobriety House employs counsellors that are certified and/or licensed to provide substance use disorder treatment.

Do They Have Medical Staff?

Substance use disorder treatment is both a mental and physical disease. Therefore, the treatment program must address both of these issues. Sobriety House has a formal partnership with Denver Health. They provide medical support for those enrolled into our program. The Mental Health Centers of Denver are one of our other community partners. They provide mental health support for our enrolled clients.

Do They Employ Staff with Lived Experience?

Substance use disorder is a very isolating and often misunderstood condition. It is often extremely helpful and therapeutic (but not necessary) to receive services from someone who has been where you are and who is in recovery. All of the House Managers for Sobriety House are successful graduates of the program and many others on our staff are also in recovery.

Do They Use Evidence-Based Treatment?

Evidence-based therapies delivered by qualified professionals are the hallmark of any effective program. Sobriety House offers several types of evidence-based treatment.

What is Their Treatment Philosophy?

The overall treatment philosophy of a program will tell you a lot about what you can expect. Sobriety House is a 12-step focused evidence-based treatment program. This means that we support and advocate the 12-step model as an effective recovery tool. However, we also use newer and proven effective evidence-based therapies such as Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy and other.

What is the cost of treatment?

Sobriety House is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our mission is our passion, which is helping people recover from addiction.

Sobriety House’s fees are upfront and all-inclusive. When researching programs make sure you know for certain what their fees are, how much of this your insurance will pay, and what happens if your insurance doesn’t cover the full cost of treatment. Give Sobriety House a call. we are able to help most people who wish to enter treatment.

Do They Offer or Accept Medication Assisted Treatment (M.A.T.)

Medication Assisted Treatment combined with other evidence-based therapy is a proven, effective method of recovery from substance use disorder. We work with many local M.A.T. providers.

Conclusion

These are only a few, yet vital, factors to consider. Choosing a treatment program to enrol in is a very personal decision. It is ultimately up to you to pursue the kind of treatment that you believe is right for you.
